Tutorial: How to Make Watercolor Text in 3 Steps
I have always been a fan of watercolours, and they are making a huge comeback in the design industry especially with feminine branding. I was asked by a lot of bloggers and self-made business owners on how they can achieve this look. Since most of them have photoshop with them I thought I’d do a photoshop tutorial on how you can make a watercolor tutorial in your blog/website graphic.
Let’s not waste any time but jump right into it.
Before you start off you will need this:
- Photoshop (of course)
- A watercolour background
- Some great music to play in the background ;)
STEP 1: Open a new file on photoshop and write some text on your blank space.
After you open photoshop, go to file and create a new file.
File > New
Click on the Text tool and type in your favorite word. I am typing "Hello!".
STEP 2: Insert the watercolour background
Now click on the file option on the main menu and click on place option. You should now get a finder window on mac or a new window on Windows. Navigate to the watercolor background file and place it over the text.
STEP 3: Make a clipping mask
Now is the hard part. Take your cursor in between the two layers (text layer and the watercolor layer) and click and hold on alt/option key on the keyboard and you will see that your cursor turn into an arrow that is pointing downwards with a white square beside it. Now click in between the two layers and the magic happens! You will now see that your text is watercolored (Is that even a word..haha!) with the background color!
Yaayyyyy... You are done!
Here is a video for you so that you know exactly how it look when you do it.
